Farmers busy harvesting small yellow ginger

Farmers are now busy harvesting small yellow ginger at the planting base in Yaqiao Village, Shilan Town, Huayuan County.

“We have harvested about 30,000 kilograms of small yellow ginger for 6 days, and need another 4 days to harvest them all. There is no need worrying about sales. Many merchants come to purchase it,” said Shi Zhenlong, a small yellow ginger grower in Yaqiao Village. Shi Zhenlong has planted small yellow ginger for more than ten years, which not only makes his family’s life better, but also helps local villagers to achieve employment at their doorstep.

“We can earn about 15,000 yuan a year by working in the base, which can help support ourselves and our family,” said a local villager. This year, Shi Zhenlong has planted 32 mu (about 2.13 hectares) of small yellow ginger, with a yield of over 40,000 kilograms and an expected output value of 280,000 yuan. The ginger harvested in the base has large size, golden color, thin skin, and thick flesh. At present, it’s popular in Chongqing, Guizhou, Changde and other places.

“I have great confidence in planting small yellow ginger. Next, I will continue to expand the planting scale of ginger and optimize the small yellow ginger industry to drive local residents to increase their income,” said Shi Zhenlong.
